Everyone has their own fitness journey. Everyone starts for their own reasons. That’s one thing I love about fitness. It’s different for everyone. Each person is writing their own book with different chapters. Different struggles and different successes.
Now let me take you down memory lane….
My journey started like many of you. I was always active growing up. I would run around with the neighbor kids, was in gymnastics and dance and always on the move. In high school I was a cheerleader but besides that, I didn't workout on my own. I would go on random runs but never had a gym membership. I was pretty average in high school. Not overweight but not “skinny”. I do remember having body image issues in high school though. I would look at the girls around me and wish I could look like them but it wasn't something that controlled my life.
Fast forward to college and man on man did I gain weight. I ate what I wanted and drank way too much. I ended up gaining probable 30lbs by my second year on college. I was my heaviest around my 21st birthday. Apparently a diet of ramen, easy mac and vodka didn't do wonders for the body! I was around 22 when I moved home and started working in a local gyms child center. I would use the facility but I had no idea what I was doing. I mostly did cardio and had no idea what to do in the weight room.
I got to a point where I was unhappy with the way I looked. I was unhappy with how I felt and I was unhappy inside. I would lose weight, gain it back, lose it again and so on. I talked to a trainer at my gym and asked him to give me any advice he could. That moment changed everything I knew about fitness and took my life in a whole new direction. I started on a plan he gave me and researched everything I could about nutrition. I ended up losing 35lbs and that’s when I decided to become a trainer.
Trainers become trainers for many different reasons. My reason was to help people the way my trainer had helped me. He completely changed my life by taking just a small amount of time out of his week to help me. I wanted to share what I had learned with others and help people like he helped me so I got my personal training certification. I absolutely love what I do and love helping people whether it’s on social media or in the gym.
Now just because I’m a trainer doesn't mean I have it together 24/7. I have to make a choice every day to workout, to eat right and to stay positive. I struggle just like everyone else does. I want cookies and donuts probably more than most people do but I have learned when you can and can’t have those things (not that I always follow that knowledge). I’ve had my weak moments but one thing I haven't done is given up. I try to share to people that fitness isn't a straight road. It’s a damn curvy, bumpy road with a lot of twists and turns!
My biggest mission is to motivate and inspire people to not end this journey because it gets hard. I want to be open and honest with everyone to show you that you are not alone and that if you stick with it, you can do it too!
